History
BPC-157 was first described by Predrag Sikiric and colleagues in a 1993 paper in Journal de Physiologie (Paris), which proposed a “stomach-stress-organoprotection hypothesis” based on the peptide’s gastroprotective and stability properties. Early research focused on ulcer models, restraint stress, and chemically induced gastric lesions in rats. Over the following three decades, the research scope expanded substantially into vascular recruitment, wound healing, tendon and ligament injury, inflammatory bowel disease, and central nervous system models, with a 2024 review in Pharmaceuticals cataloguing over 130 published studies on the compound.
